I am originally from Saginaw, Michigan. I have also lived in Montana, Tennessee and Florida but now call Seattle, Washington home. I live with my partner and best friend Jeffrey. We have been together since 2005.
I graduated from Central Michigan University with a BS in sociology and have held a wide variety of occupations. My favorite vocation that I have held is being a teacher in Memphis, Tennessee. I also attended Montana State University for a brief period.
I have two children. My son is a Marine and my daughter is an entrepreneur and mom. They are total opposites of one another and the diversity pleases me.
I began painting during the Spring of 2009 and have found it increasingly therapeutic and enjoyable. I have never taken a single art lesson and have only appreciated art as a casual observer until I began painting. I am not exactly sure of what classifies one as an artist, but I do enjoy the process of creation more and more every day. It is thrilling to be able to improve and grow as a developing "explorer" and I hope that I never get "good enough" to end that growth process. Not to worry, I won't. Nobody ever does.
When I began painting, I bought a single canvas, a couple of brushes, and a handful of paint. I have been hooked ever since. That first painting was actually completed with a maxi-pad as I did not have adequate supplies.
For me, art is about storytelling, and I do love to tell stories. With paintings, stories are very collaborative. I would never insist on reinforcing a story to the point of ignoring someone else's story.
In the art world, I am primarily interested in painting and to this point I have only used acrylics. I find that the forgiveness of acrylic paint creates a perfect complement to my both emerging style and developing expression. Pop art is a major interest for me, but I find that I enjoy exploring the collaboration of both modern and classical styles. I have been creating some mixed media pieces as well. I have not yet determined my style yet and do not feel a desire to close myself in creatively at this point.
Major influences in my life have come from a wide spectrum of individuals. Gandhi, Madonna, Salvador Dali, Picasso, Gustav Klimt, Walt Disney, and Herb Ritts are just a few. I also find that less famous people can serve as inspiration to a developing artist. These people are all around me every day.
This site was designed with the intention of sharing my artwork and maybe a little bit of the creative process as well. I see this website as a "love journey", cataloging my passion for painting and my search for creativity. I thought it would be fun to narrate a bit but do not feel directed to listen to my endless babble.
I hope that you enjoy the art and accept it in the love that it was created.
